For healthy adaptable living
A Diagrams the typical existing home's circulation and is a worst case scenario for separation distancing
B Shows an improvement to A but still shows a shared entrance
C Illustrates the ideal post-pandemic circulation strategy that our homes use for the greatest safety and flexibility for monetization. Secondary bedrooms and guest rooms aim to be accessible independently from the main home's entrance with the option of connecting via interior circulation for a more inclusive family arrangement
X Diagrams the typical existing home's interior circulation and is a worst case scenario for freedom of movement and ventilation
Y Shows an improvement to X but still shows the room as a chamber
Z Illustrates the ideal post-pandemic interior circulation strategy that our homes use for the greatest freedom of movement and ventilation. Our fluid-dynamic approach to interior planning attempts to reduce the typical sense of entrapment imposed by traditional interior partitioning stemming off the perimeter wall
Our homes aim to minimize their literal footprints by building upward rather than sprawling outward - to lift the living experience off the ground and preserve the natural landscape, limit excavation and maximize views
Stacking program upwards rather than sprawling outwards allows a variety of dynamic views with each higher elevation. Ground floor views engage with the forest floor while 2nd levels have a commanding view of the wooded landscape. Third levels immerse with the tree canopy while rooftops get a bird's eye perspective
Stacking program also provides access to green roofs which can be used for harvestable gardens up and away from hungry forest critters below
Our homes can be built using high-performance concrete with cast-in-place continuous insulation & air barrier. The concrete is exposed on the exterior and interior with a variety of formwork finish & texture options
Our homes can also be built using wood framing with cavity insulation + exterior insulation & rain-screen. The interiors can be finished traditionally or with wood paneling while the exteriors can be cladded with a variety of wood boards or shingles
Interior floors will typically consist of a solid wood finish over a structural sub-floor over an open wood joist within which plumbing, electrical & HVAC services can be run.
Interior ceilings have many finish options between pressed-metal panels to reclaimed wood boards and more. Ceilings will be mounted below open web wood joists with acoustic insulation between for the greatest interior comfort and isolation between spaces
-
Windows and Doors are specified high performance & triple glazed to integrate with continuous insulation & air barriers
-
Heat recovery ventilation systems supply a steady flow of fresh filtered air to the interior and cast-in-place radiant heating is standard in the insulated slab on grade
-
Overall building dimensions and openings are coordinated with standard building material sizes and modules to reduce waste reduce construction time
-
Raw natural finishes are preferred for their authenticity over heavily processed materials - the tactility of the rougher-hewn refines the experience of living one with nature
-
Solar-harvesting roofs, battery storage, electric car charging and geothermal heat transfer technology is always on-the-table for consideration
